About Me

Finding the Survivor and Champion in All of Us

Ralph Schillace, Ph.D.

The study of lives has fascinated me for all of the 40-some years I have been a psychologist. What excites me even more than the learning from how we cope, survive and thrive is applying the knowledge in helping others.

Helen Keller had it right, “Life is an adventure or it is nothing at all.” Positive and negative, major life events make it an adventure. While they rock our boat and threaten to sink us, they also offer unlimited possibilities for personal growth. Herein lies the magic and mystery of the human – the ability to grow and become all one's potentials allow, especially when stressed.

As a psychotherapist, I work as a guide to help my clients find a path through life’s challenges. I believe our ability to understand our experiences is the key to using them to grow and prosper. The search for and the creation of the meaning in high impact life events is my beacon.

As a speaker and trainer, I celebrate the incredible ability we have as individuals to endure and to overcome. My clients' stories have gifted me with insights and examples that find the survivor and champion in all of us. And all of the examples are from ordinary, normal people, not heroes or celebrities.

What blinds us to our own abilities? What derails us when life throws an obstacle in our path? What brings out strengths we never knew we had? How do life experiences transform us into a stronger and wiser person? How do we manage the inevitable changes in our relationships as we grow and change? These are some of the questions answered by the stories from my clients' life adventures. My gift is to share the answers in my work.
